I was raised in the wonderful town of Washington, IN. This is the place where I went to high school and worked at my dad’s restaurant for the entirety of my youth. I attended community college at Vincennes University for 3 semesters and was directed by my advisor that Purdue University is the school that would be the best choice for my interest in weather. I took his advice and was enrolled in the fall of 2006. In May 2009, I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Earth and Atmospheric Science. Three hours after taking my last final exam as an undergraduate at Purdue, I was on a flight to Oklahoma to volunteer and be a part of the tornado pod deployment team during the Vortex2 field project.
In May 2010, the Center for Severe Weather Research brought me back for the second phase of Vortex2 and again was part of the tornado pod deployment team. Shortly after the end of the project, CSWR hired me on to the crew. I moved to Colorado in July and have been working for them since. So far I have been editing radar images, driving the DOWs to educational outreaches, tornado pod repairs and doing other various tasks.
Prior to CSWR, one of the activities I was involved in was volunteering for the National Weather Service in Indianapolis. Here, I performed a few of the responsibilities of the meteorologist intern. Creating temperature and rainfall amount graphics and nowcasts for display on the NWS website were just a couple of the things performed in the office. I also gave speeches to other students in college about my volunteering experience.
