The Doppler On Wheels (DOW) mobile radars, Mobile Mesonets, and Deployable Instrumentation Pods are National Science Foundation (NSF) Lower Atmospheric Observing Facilities (LAOF). These powerful state-of-the-art instruments can be requested for research or educational projects.
NSF grantees/proposers: If you have an NSF-supported grant, or are proposing to NSF, you can request the allocation of any of the DOW facilities and also support from NSF to cover all the costs associated with these deployments. (These costs need not be included in your proposal/grant.)

Non-NSF grantees/proposers: If you have an actual or proposed project for which non-NSF support is provided or proposed, you can request the allocation of any of the DOW facilities, but your project must be able to provide financial support to cover deployment and related costs.

Educational proposers: DOW facilities frequently are deployed to colleges/universities to support education. Typically a DOW and/or a Mobile Mesonet and Pod(s) are deployed to a college/university for a couple to a few weeks and incorporated into a graduate and/or undergraduate course. Students can design and execute experiments, actually operating the DOWs and other instruments.

Outreach and other requesters: Other deployments, such as to K-12 schools, STEM festivals, and other high impact outreach events are possible. DOW facilities have participated in events such as the USA Science & Engineering Festival, Texas Earth Day, GadgetOff, TED, and similar events.

Local (Colorado) requesters: DOW facilities can participate in show-and-tell type events at schools close to the DOW Facility base in Boulder. Tours of the DOW facility can also be arranged.
